I’ve tried this technique and it’s working great—but I’ve noticed that when you toggle a role off an exported clip will still contain that roles audio (assuming the audio within the compound clip is left “enabled.” For example, I have an effects track that includes lots of b-roll with reference audio. The video and audio for the b-roll are assigned to the “Effects” roles and the audio is all left on. In my master compound clip I turn this Effects role off (I don’t want any of the reference audio) from the roles pane of the Timeline Index (it remains on in the Audio Configuration section of the inspector). It mutes the audio for that role during playback but NOT on export. Is this normal? Why does this happen?
“Turning off” any role in the Timeline Index only mutes it for timeline playback. It doesn’t mute or deactivate the role for export.
