The Components of Sound
Final Cut Pro gives you total control over your audio channels – what Final Cut Pro calls Components. We’ll show you how to organize your audio, so all your components are clearly labeled, and show you best practices for working with multi-channel synchronized clips.
Learn the Tools of Professional Sound Editing
You’ll learn how to apply and use EQs and Compressors for the purpose of making your dialogue and voiceovers stand out in the mix, and learn time-saving workflows for applying effects and volume adjustments to multiple audio components in your project.
Organize Your Soundtrack
This tutorial will teach you more than the what buttons to push. You’ll learn industry-proven workflows for organizing your dialogue, music and effects using Final Cut Pro’s Magnetic Timeline.
It’s All in the Mix
Professional sound editing often requires exporting D, M and E submixes for a network. You’ll learn how creating Role Components greatly simplifies the process of mixing and delivering master files.

Thank you for an excellent tutorial.
I am going to watch it several times to get all the details.
This was great!

Excellent tutorial, thank you very much! Found quite a few extremely useful tips and tricks which are somewhat hidden in the FCP X interface!

As a stills photographer learning to shoot and edit video, sound editing can be challenging as it doesn’t come naturally in the way that the visual stuff does. I need to make an extra effort for sure with audio. This tutorial is excellent in that it covers so much material in a very clear and concise way as with everything else that comes out of Ripple Training. I have had to work through the material twice to really understand and absorb the information but am now feeling like I have gained so much from making the effort. Thanks Steve.

This training course came as part of the Final Cut Pro X Essentials. I have just finished this and it was an excellent course. I have learned a ton from this and will no doubt have to go back to parts as I go until I have grasped it enough. Some I am sure I will not use at this time, but who knows what project is around the next corner! The cleaning outdoor audio was a great one for me with some wedding ceremony’s being outdoors.

Steve has put a lot of stuff into this. I think the information density is sometimes even too much, so I needed to go back even within the same training video a few times to catch everything. But overall this gets very much to the point of the subject. Good techniques, all relevant keyboard shortcuts, a lot of new information I haven’t seen presented in the same way before. This definitely sped up my audio workflow and I can only recommend this training. It definitely shows, what you can already achieve within FCPX without always requiring something like Logic or Audition for getting things right. Better than expected for the money spent.

Another excellent course that builds upon the foundations of the core training sounders and important part of video production and this course helps you realize the importance and incorporate the lessons learned into your videos.

I’m very grateful to Steve for having put together such an informative and detailed tutorial which takes all the mystery out of how to work with audio in Final Cut Pro. I’m relatively new to Final Cut, so when it came time to dive in and see if I could get my head around audio clips, components, roles, sub-roles, lanes, etc., this was the tutorial I needed. Not only did Steve cover how to do an audio mix in Final Cut, but he also talks about important aspects of working with audio and audio mixing, knowledge that can be applied to other situations or applications. And you get to experience FCP’s magic when you see a slew of audio clips organize themselves in the timeline according to roles and sub-roles. For me, since I work on my own sound, this tutorial is essential.

Great tutorial to get started with sound editing in FCPX. I would love one that goes even deeper into the secrets of a smooth mix! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for an advanced course 🙂
Julia B. (verified owner) –
Steve always makes it easy to understand how to accomplish the task.

Very useful – comprehensive, in-depth, thorough, to-the-point, well-organized for repeated viewings, must have.

I own a DJ Entertainment company and use FCPX to edit most of my videos. In the past, I’ve been using Sony’s Sound Forge Software to edit my audio. Not anymore, I now edit all of my audio files with FCPX. Thanks to this Ripple Training course, I’ve learned a lot.

Steve’s training is always succinct and focused on the key learning points. As a trainer myself I often purchase his courses to ensure I haven’t missed anything cool. I always have. This is no exception – buy it for the explanation of sound fundamentals at the start alone and you’d have value for money! Nicely done Steve – anyone who wants to get the best sound out of FCPX should watch these tutorials.
Paul K. (verified owner) –
Very useful and helpful lessons, well done guys and thank you so much!

I am just over half way through the training at the moment but I have already been able to put into practice things that I have learned, and the quality of my works has increased signifcantly, Steve is a great instructor and paces the lessons just right, will certainly be back for more soon.

This tutorial makes FCPX my single solution for audio, video and motion graphics. There is more here than you would ever find in the User Guide. Complete and compact instruction explains not only how but why and be ready to play it again you’ll get more out of this than any other tutorial. I really want to thank Jill for helping with my purchase decision during their fantastic sale. The kids aren’t the only ones going back to school this year.
Michael M. (verified owner) –
A lot of info, easy to understand and implement. You can’t ask for anything more. I highly recommend this program.

Being a new to FCP X, I started with the Ripple Core Training, which I loved. This Sound Editing tutorial was the next logical step to learn more about how to work with sound. The course is very well built and after the first theoretical lesson explaining the basics and physics of sound, it dives into practical stuff. The pace is quite fast, so what worked for me best was first to just watch the whole course to learn what is possible with FCP X and most of it functionality. And then, I went through it for the second time, this time working along on all the tasks. I tested several other tutorials and came to the conclusion that the ones from Ripple are the best, very systematic and logically build. I can’t imagine learning FCP X on my own without them. I highly recommend them.

Extremely helpful tutorial, answered questions I had that I couldn’t figure out on my own. The tutorial has a lot of depth. I like the specificity of training to audio as that is an area I need to improve on. There is information that I can use right now and other information that will help me later when I reach that point so the tutorial is bundled with a broad spectrum of useful information. Thank you!

As with all the Tutorials from this great company, there is a lot packed into each chapter. From the basic (which is what, I suppose, I already knew) to advanced sound management in FCPX 3.3, I have learned a huge amount. If I have any negative at all, is it all the keyboard shortcuts fired off in short succession in Lesson 06 – Steve, there’s no way I am going to remember them. To solve that, I think the menus and sub-menus should be presented first, and then the short-cut option so one is taken from little known to the unknown in a progressive manner. OK – so that’s method. The content, however, is superb, and in every respect this is a fabulous series of how-to’s on what is the most important part of a movie. I should have done this years ago.

Interesting methods demonstrated but very detailed demonstration of FCPX capabilities. Still reviewing several sections to make sure I use all the good ideas and techniques to produce better interviews. Great lesson recommend it to anyone serious about producing videos using FCPX.

I run a wedding and commercial business out of Portland Oregon. Whenever I need to update my FCP X skills I always use Ripple Training tutorials. They’re quick, clean, to the point and well organized. I always learn a ton which means I make better films in less time.

Very good training like all the your tutorial. Goes into the details of audio editing and mixing in FCP 10.3. I’ve been a very happy customer for many years and I’ve learned a lot from Steve and Mark.
Evgeny T. (verified owner) –
This is a unique and clear explanation of how to work with audio in FCP. As a FCP editor I highly recommended this tutorial to all who want to make they movies sound better! It is really great job done by Steve: competed, clear and powerful training. A lot of practical information.
This is not about “where to click” – this is about how to improve sound (dialogues, SFX and music).

I started with a sound background, and have been doing video and color for the last 20 years. That said, the way Steve explained stuff is very easy to learn, he always has a way to put things in perspective. Those tutorials are well built for beginners and semi-pro also, because he brings us back to some basic. stuff. Great tutorial. I may buy the Logic Pro tutorials; like Sam Mestman, I want a one hardware solution. I think Avid, pro tools after effects have done their time.
Norman R. (verified owner) –
Not only was this a great update it also explained in detail how to use some of the more ‘sophisticated’ tools for audio editing. For someone who is not necessarily a musician the mechanics of audio were clearly a major benefit for audio editing within Final Cut.
Antonio A. (verified owner) –
Definitely helped me understand and use the many audio management, editing and processing tools within FCP 10.3 with detailed short videos and practice files. I also picked up Ripple’s Logic Pro X tutorial to do better ADR and background music since GarageBand only samples at 44.1kHz, not the video standard of 48kHz.
Brad B. (verified owner) –
Great tutorial. It was especially helpful for a video editor who knows FCP X but doesn’t know a ton about Sound and Sound Editing. I was able to learn a number of new techniques for getting my projects to sound better. Plus there were many shortcuts to speed up my workflow. The fact that it was just updated for 10.3 and all the new roles based work is an even better bonus.

I spent many years in radio and thought I had a pretty good grasp for sound and sound editing. But I learned many new things in this tutorial and especially how to work with sound in Final Cut. Well done.
Hugh W. (verified owner) –
Fabulous tutorial! I learned so much about audio roles. Especially Chapter 8 – Working w/ Components & subroles, Chapter 9 Role Based Project Organization, Chapter 16 – Mixing the soundtrack will really get you to a pro sound editor!
Vic T. (verified owner) –
Like all of the Ripple tutorials, this one excels in its straight forward and simple to understand lessons. The included media makes it easy to practice along with Steve’s classic style of instruction. Ripple Training makes the best tutorials!

Well, it’s a very nice audio update for FCPX. And your new audio tutorial is very thorough, and well done, very informative, and helpful.
Thank you. I have enjoyed and utilized your training tutorials for a long time…
Ton K. (verified owner) –
A very nice tutorial. The quality of it is as I’ve come to expect from Ripple Training.

I learned a lot from this training. Currently my use of FCPX is limited to editing our church service but I was always fighting with trying to get the sound right. This training finally hit it home that I need to take the service and basically cut it up into clips and then deal with the audio for each clip. I’d like to thank Steve for his training on this and the practical examples presented.
Dave P. (verified owner) –
This is great stuff; thorough and professional tutelage at a great price. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of post production sound in general and learn all about the wonderful new audio features in 10.3. There’s a lot of information presented here but Steve makes it easy to grasp.
Vuong T. (verified owner) –
I really love this sound training for FCPX 10.3. I’ve been using FCPX 10 since it first came out but haven’t really going into detail like this. But finally Steve has a tutorial and it help me maneuver my work flow faster and easier. Thank Steve.

Since FCP X was first launched there has been a wide variety of tutorial providers – but one team has constantly surpassed all the others – The Team from Ripple Training. Steve and Mark have a proven track record of not only doing comprehensive training, but also their MacBreak Studio and Motion in 5 minutes, and Alexis for the DaVinci series provide up-to-the-minute help and guidance for all of us. I consider myself somewhat experienced and yet still amazed about how much I don’t know. The Sound Editing just released filled in many gaps in a very important role while using FCP X. The Ripple Training Team are the best in the business and also a big shout out to Jill and the ‘back office’ support team.

Great training to learn how to use audio editing tools inside Final Cut Pro 10.3 to get the best results. Thinking about buying a basic training on Logic Pro X from Ripple Training too.

Very nice update. Explains the new functionality of 10.3 with regard to audio editing and mixing. It goes into detail on new and improved audio workflows.
